The Relay of Prayer
To mark the Olympic Games in London in 2012 the Diocese of Salford wanted to do something special, something that would highlight the links between religion and sport, as well as celebrate their common ability to bring people together.
That’s when we came up with the idea of the Relay of Prayer.
At its heart the relay is an ‘olympic’ torch procession that will visit each of the schools in the diocese. During its journey the torch will travel more than 450 miles and it will finish at a special service in Salford on July 6th 2012.
Supported by Pope Benedict XVI, the Relay of Prayer is the brainchild of the Diocesan Departments for Evangelisation and Formation.
